Setting the Tank

The excavator then digs the hole for the septic tank. The little red flourescent point in the middle
of the picture is the grade stake. This stake is set by the septic system designer and is the key reference
point for building the septic system.

| The finished hole must be level. The output connection of the septic tank
sets the level of your drain pipes in the septic field. From this point you can calculate the
grade of the drain bed. In the center of the picture you can see a board. One end of the board is
sitting on top of the grade stake and using a level, a plumb bob and the dimmension from the outlet
conection to the bottom of the septic tank we can determine the bottom grade level of the tank hole. This is the most
important measurement of the whole project
