Setting the Tank

The excavator then digs the hole for the septic tank. The little red flourescent point in the middle of the picture is the grade stake. This stake is set by the septic system designer and is the key reference point for building the septic system.

The finished hole must be level. The output connection of the septic tank sets the level of your drain pipes in the septic field. From this point you can calculate the grade of the drain bed. In the center of the picture you can see a board. One end of the board is sitting on top of the grade stake and using a level, a plumb bob and the dimmension from the outlet conection to the bottom of the septic tank we can determine the bottom grade level of the tank hole. This is the most important measurement of the whole project
