Placing the tank and starting the field

The tank is brought in by a crane truck (at left) and placed. Notice the level sitting on top of the tank. The tank must be level and the top of the outlet connection (shown on the left side of the tank)  should match the top of your septic field grade stake.

Once the tank is set, you then begin the excavation of the drain field.  Notice the level at the right of the picture. One end of the level is set in the tank outlet (not shown off the right of the picture) to give us our grade to the bottom of the outlet connection.  Add the height of the drain tile to this grade and subtract the depth of the drain rock and sand to get the grade of the drain field.  The sand and drain rock depths will be specified on the septic plan which that was approved by the health department.
