Leveling the pipe

Once the pipe has been straightened in the trench, you must check along the pipe to ensure that is is level from one end to the other.
Once the pipe is level and straigh, then you must build in the necessary slope to make sure that the sewage flows by force of gravity to the tank.  The prescribed slope is 1/4 inch for each foot of distance.  In our example the length of pipe from the tank to the house is fifty feet.  The total slope would be 50 x 1/4 inch or 12 1/2 inches.  You will notice that we have marked this on the stake in the picture.  We then build up the trench floor under the pipe to meet this height.
